The first step is to bring the appropriate cable through the wall to a location pre-selected as ideal in terms of view. How to choose the location for the camera is described in our other article Where to place a security camera.
In the next part of this guide we'll cover the actual preparation and installation steps.
Preparation during insulation work
There are many types and methods of building insulation. In this tutorial we'll focus on the most common one — polystyrene insulation. The first step you can take before insulation begins, or even during, is installing a mounting plate that serves as a stable support for the security camera.
Install the mounting plate as instructed by anchoring it into the wall and embedding it in the insulation system. Then pull the cable through the prepared hole.
Mounting on a finished facade
After the facade is finished, about 20 cm of cable will protrude from the wall. In our example we mount an IP camera. How to install the camera is described in IP camera system installation, or AHD camera system installation.
Don't forget the SMART connector that protects cable joints from weather.
A cable box can also protect connectors, but 100% protection is provided by a SMART connector or vulcanising tape.
For a clean installation we recommend sealing the cable-box rim on DOME cameras with silicone — this eliminates unwanted water ingress into the inner space.
