What is PoE power?

PoE (Power over Ethernet) lets you transmit power and data over a single cable. Learn the benefits and how it simplifies camera installation.

What is PoE power?

What are the benefits of PoE?

  • Because PoE allows transmitting both data and power over a single Ethernet cable, installation is much simpler — no need for a separate power outlet near each camera.
  • You can install cameras at locations where pulling a 230V power line would be expensive or impractical (e.g., outdoor poles, roof eaves).
  • Lower wiring cost and cleaner installation aesthetics.
  • Centralized power management — when you cut power at the recorder, all PoE cameras shut down too.

What devices does PATRONUM offer with PoE?

  • NVR recorders with built-in PoE switch (4, 8, 16 ports) — connect cameras directly without external switch.
  • Standalone PoE switches if you need to expand an existing system.
  • All IP cameras PATRONUM PRB and PRD support PoE (IEEE 802.3af / 802.3at).

What cable should I use?

Use UTP/STP Cat 5e or higher Ethernet cable. Maximum length is typically 100 metres per segment. For longer distances, use a PoE extender or fibre converter.
