Securing streams from PATRONUM camera systems

PATRONUM cameras use encrypted P2P connection and end-to-end stream protection. The article explains how the video transmission is protected from eavesdropping and unauthorised access.

What is P2P communication?

P2P, or peer-to-peer, is a network model where each node (or "peer") can communicate directly with every other node. This means data can be transmitted directly between devices without going through a central server. PATRONUM security cameras use this model for transmitting data streams, enabling efficient and fast communication.

How does SSL encryption work?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard technology for securing internet connections, protecting any sensitive data transmitted between two systems and preventing third parties from reading it. SSL achieves this by encrypting the data passed between user and server (or server and server).

What is 802.1x and MD5 LEAP?

802.1x is a network-connection standard that provides port-level authentication. MD5 LEAP (Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol) is a type of authentication that uses the MD5 hashing algorithm to create a "fingerprint" of the data, increasing security during user authentication on the network.

How is this technology applied to PATRONUM camera systems?

PATRONUM security cameras combine all these technologies to create a strong security system. Together they provide robust security for streams from PATRONUM camera systems, protecting data in transit and preventing unauthorised access to streams.

PATRONUM cameras not only deliver a high security level for their users, they also commit to meeting the personal-data protection requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

GDPR compliance

  1. Data minimisation: PATRONUM cameras collect only data strictly necessary to provide the service, in line with GDPR's data-minimisation principle.
  2. Transparency: PATRONUM provides clear, comprehensive information on what data is collected, how it is processed and how it is stored — a key GDPR aspect.
  3. Data security: as mentioned above, PATRONUM uses cutting-edge technology, including P2P, SSL and 802.1x (MD5 LEAP), to secure data and protect against unauthorised access and leakage.
  4. Breach notification: in case of a data-security breach, PATRONUM is committed to promptly notifying the relevant authorities and affected individuals as required by GDPR.

Remember that even though PATRONUM cameras provide the technology and tools for GDPR compliance, organisations and individuals using these cameras must also ensure their use is lawful — for example by obtaining informed consent before installing cameras where it is required.
