What is real WDR?

WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) lets cameras handle scenes with large light/shadow contrast. Real WDR (DWDR vs True WDR) differs in quality — find out what you're really buying.

WDR stands for "Wide Dynamic Range" and is a technology used in security cameras. This feature helps improve image quality in situations with large contrasts between bright and dark areas.

In some scenarios, for example when the camera faces a window or door, the background may be very bright and the foreground very dark. This could cause the camera to fail to capture details in the dark or overly bright areas. WDR helps balance the lighting and preserves details across the entire image.

When WDR is enabled, the camera takes several frames at different exposure levels and combines them into one frame that shows both dark and bright areas well. It is especially useful in scenes with changing lighting, for example a building entrance, where indoor lighting can differ significantly from daylight outside.
