P2P is a temporarily established internet connection between a camera system and the user, who via an application — the so-called client — can monitor the camera system without needing to set up a public IP address.
What are the benefits of P2P connection?
- Remote monitoring can be done even on mobile internet connections where you cannot obtain a public IP address.
- No need to set up a public/static IP address with your internet provider, which is usually charged — saving you thousands of crowns per year.
- Connecting the camera system is simple — no need to deal with NAT port forwarding.
- All your connections are saved in your account after registration — no need to re-enter all details on another device, just log in.
How does P2P work?
All PATRONUM devices (IP cameras, recorders) come from the factory with a unique code used for identification in the P2P network. You will typically find this code on the device label or in its menu. It can also be displayed as a QR code for easy adding to your mobile app via a photo. In the client app, you simply enter or photograph this unique code and fill in your device's access credentials. The P2P server takes care of everything else by routing the communication between the client and your camera system.
What are the disadvantages of P2P connection?
Mediated communication goes through a third party and is therefore somewhat dependent on the load and technical condition of the P2P servers. Certain data limits can be expected for online camera system management. If you require maximum responsiveness and stability, the standard solution is a direct connection via a public or local IP address.
