AI feature — Virtual line crossing (people, vehicles)

The virtual line feature in AI camera systems automatically detects people and vehicles crossing a defined line and triggers the appropriate actions.

Virtual line — intelligent person and vehicle detection

The virtual line crossing feature in AI camera systems lets the system automatically detect people and vehicles crossing your defined virtual line. It relies on algorithms able to analyse the image and distinguish between people, vehicles and other objects such as animals or trees.

Benefits of the virtual line crossing feature

  • Higher security: the feature alerts you in time to unauthorised entry into the protected area, helping prevent theft and vandalism.
  • Fewer false alarms: unlike traditional motion detectors that react to any motion in the frame, virtual line crossing eliminates false alarms caused by animals, branches or shadows.
  • Higher monitoring efficiency: operators see only relevant events, reducing fatigue and improving efficiency.
  • Automatic activation: on a line crossing the system can automatically trigger an alarm, send an alert to the operator or activate another camera.
  • Data collection: the feature lets you collect data on the movement of people and vehicles in the protected area, which can be analysed and used to optimise operations.

How virtual line crossing works

  • Defining the virtual line: the operator draws the line that people or vehicles must not cross.
  • Image analysis: algorithms continuously analyse the image, looking for people or vehicles crossing the line.
  • Crossing detection: if the system detects a crossing in the defined direction, it immediately triggers the configured actions.

Types of virtual line crossing

  • Direction: the system detects entry into the defined zone from one or both directions.

Virtual line crossing is a valuable tool for camera systems — it improves security, reduces false alarms and enables more efficient monitoring.

Conditions for proper detection

The security camera must be at 2–4 m height. Tilt to horizontal must not exceed 30°. Detection range is 10–15 m. There must be no objects between the person/vehicle and the camera blocking the view. Failing these conditions can lead to incorrect detection.
