AI feature — Face detection (people)

Face detection is an AI feature in camera systems that automatically recognises and tracks people in the camera's field of view. Find out how it works and what benefits it brings.

AI feature — Face detection (people)

Face detection in AI camera systems is a feature that automatically recognises and tracks people's faces (without identifying them) appearing in the camera's frame. It relies on algorithms able to analyse the image and distinguish features of the human face. In the configuration you can set the detection area and the size of the detection field — i.e. at what distance detection should occur.

Benefits of face detection:

  • Higher security and detection-distance setting: based on face detection and the configured face size you can effectively define the distance at which a person should be detected.
  • Crime prevention: the feature helps prevent criminal activity.
  • Smooth operations: the feature contributes to smooth operations in busy places such as airports, train stations or shopping centres.

Face detection is a valuable feature that lets the system precisely distinguish a person from other moving objects in the frame and provides more efficient monitoring and crime prevention.

Conditions for proper detection

The security camera must be mounted at 2–4 m height. The tilt angle relative to horizontal must be less than 30°. Recommended detection distance is 10–15 m. There must be no objects between the person/vehicle and the camera blocking the view. Failing these conditions can lead to incorrect operation of the detection features.
