What is region entry/exit detection?
Region entry/exit detection is an AI feature on PATRONUM security cameras and NVR recorders that automatically recognises when a person or vehicle enters or leaves a defined area in the field of view. Unlike classic motion detection, the AI distinguishes person from vehicle and ignores irrelevant motion (animals, branches, weather).
How does the feature work?
You define a polygon (the protected area) on the camera screen. AI then continuously monitors all motion in the entire frame and triggers an event only when a person or vehicle:
- enters the area (crosses its boundary into it),
- or leaves the area (crosses the boundary out of it).
The event can trigger recording, alarm, push notification on a mobile, email, siren, lights or any other configured action.
Typical applications
- Garden / yard — alarm when a person enters at night.
- Parking lot — track vehicles entering/leaving.
- Driveway gate — record arrivals and departures.
- Storage area — detect intrusion outside business hours.
- Pool / dangerous zones — alert when a person approaches.
Person vs vehicle filter
For each region you can choose what triggers the alarm:
- Person only (typical for residential security)
- Vehicle only (parking lot)
- Person + vehicle (combined applications)
Setup on the recorder
- Enter the camera channel settings on the recorder.
- Find Smart Event / Region Entrance / Region Exiting.
- Enable the feature, draw the polygon on screen.
- Choose the target type (person/vehicle).
- Set the schedule (which days/hours it's active).
- Set the alarm action (recording, push, email, etc.).
Tips for good detection
- Camera at the right height (typically 2.5–4 m).
- Use a 4MP or higher AI camera (PATRONUM PRB AI line).
- Avoid scenes with strong backlight against the area.
- Polygon should be at the bottom of the frame (where people walk).
